Dallas Semiconductor High Speed Micros (HSMs) are 8051-compatible cores which execute instructions in fewer oscillator periods. This results in a 3-4X speed improvement over the 8051 using the same crystal. Plus HSMs can use a 33 or 40 MHz crystal. This gives you a 7-10X execution increase. Or you can use the same or slower crystal and greatly reduce power consumption.
